The purpose of this website is to provide information about Tablighi Jamaat the controversial Islamic sect which proposes to build the biggest mosque in Europe at West Ham in east London. The proposed mega-mosque would be less than a mile from the main 2012 Olympic stadium, and has generated opposition from many quarters.

Tablighi Jamaat is a global and ambitious organisation with a secretive, separatist nature. Its narrow medieval form of Deobandi Islam is hostile to the modern and open democratic societies of the West. In South Asia where it originated, it is closely associated with the Pakistan Taleban (see for instance BBC report). Its frequent claims to be non-political and non-violent are at best a partial truth that hides a deeper agenda.

As our website develops, we intend to provide information about Tablighi Jamaat and expose the misleading rebranding campaign that is being driven by Tablighi Jamaat’s public relations agent, Indigo Public Affairs. We will also scrutinise the building plans as they become available.

We believe firmly in the UK’s history of cultural freedom, diversity and integration. In the UK Muslims have the right to worship, as do Christians, Hindus and those of other faiths. However, we object to the establishment this particular mega-mosque, by this group, and we are grateful for our democratic right to oppose it. This website will explain the reasons for that opposition.

This website will be both respectful and reasoned, reflecting our commitment to diversity and to the democratic society we live in. We deplore both the grandstanding politics of mega-mosque supporter Mayor Ken Livingstone at one extreme, and the hate-mongering of the political far-right at the other.

We are concerned citizens and we intend to represent the moderate middle on this nationally significant issue. We base our opposition to the mega-mosque on reason and evidence.
